History

The history of our church goes back to a Charter granted to the Monks of Westminster in 986 AD

Many histories of Hampstead have been written.

Many famous people have lived in Hampstead and a number of them are buried in the churchyard and additional burial ground.

Tomb Trails are available in the church and the Camden History Society publication Buried in Hampstead, by Christopher Wade, which gives details of a selection of the most well-known, is also available from our online shop as well as a comprehensive history of the building of the church written by Prof Michael Port.
