AgeUK Camden – NW3 Good Neighbour Scheme
As Jeremy has said in his sermon above this scheme is in desperate need of funding. You may have read about it in the local press too – it has lost Big Lottery funding and now needs £45,000 to keep going. No new referrals are being taken.
So what does it / did it do?
Suzy Barber, interviewed for the Camden New Journal said “For 15 years the project has matched volunteer “befrienders” with pensioners. …… Older people we help often tell me that their befriender is their window to the outside world, as some are housebound and have no relatives. …… admitted to hospital, often the befrienders will be the only person who visits them. They are a real lifeline”. It is to the participants in the Good Neighbour Scheme that our Christmas hampers go.
But this is a need way beyond a basket of goodies and a pair of mittens – what they really need are substantial donations from businesses or philanthropic associations, If you have contacts, work for such a business, know of any organisation looking to support a good cause, please contact Suzy Barber via the Parish Office
