Traidcraft

“The fields of the poor may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it all away.” Proverbs 13:23

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, environmental sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. Fairtrade enables producers to improve their lot and have more control over their lives.

At Hampstead we run a Traidcraft stall on the first Sunday of the month after the 10.30 a.m. service. We sell a wide range of foodstuffs including tea, coffee, rice, pasta, sugar, dried fruit, biscuits and, of course, chocolate. If 66% of the churches in the London Diocese become Fairtrade churches the Diocese can apply for Fairtrade Diocese status, one of the stated aims of London Challenge 2012.

We hope to be able to apply for Fairtrade status soon because we strive to use Fairtrade tea and coffee after services and for all meetings and we are beginning to use other Fairtrade products such as sugar and biscuits. We also promoted Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight by distributing Fairtrade chocolates as well as posies during our Mothering Sunday service.
